Racing heart?
My heart has been racing lately for no reason. It usually stops after a while, but seems to come on after I eat and sometimes when I turn over in bed. After racing for a bit, my heart rate will slow back to normal. During these episodes, I don't experience any pain. Should I see my doctor?

Christie, usually this is a non-serious condition, although I strongly urge you to check this out with your doctor. Most reports state it's fairly common for women to experience these types of fluctuations. The fact that it's your heart makes the situation worse and can prolong the symptoms. However, if they're intermittent, it's probably nothing to worry about. Heart palpitations often occur during the onset of menopause, but can also appear during pregnancy and after giving birth. Once you speak with your doctor, he or she will designed whether to monitor your heart over a certain period or to try other treatments.
